At St. Peter am Hart in the province of Upper Austria, Weatherpark looked into the flow field around a power line. In the past, strong wind events had caused pylons to break. The aim of the study was to determine whether strong winds are enforced by topographic conditions in the area and thus bring down pylons. Data of local wind conditions was collected by three weather stations which had been in operation by Weatherpark for a year. Data was then complemented by a long-term wind climatology. The required software programs for establishing a wind field and flow analysis were developed in the course of the project. With this, power lines in other regions may also be examined for topographic danger zones regarding strong winds.
